TimeMap allows you to explore how the world has changed through history. Alongside historical regions and borders, the map now includes Places — cities and settlements that you can explore interactively.
Click on a city to discover its historical context and see how nearby regions evolved across different time periods.
Explore Cities Directly on the Map
The new Places layer adds cities and settlements as clickable points on the map.
Instead of focusing only on large historical regions, TimeMap now allows you to explore specific locations where history happened. By clicking on a city, you can open a panel containing historical information about that place.
This helps connect local places with the wider historical context of the region.

See Nearby Historical Regions
Cities were always part of larger political and cultural landscapes.
TimeMap helps reveal this relationship by showing nearby historical regions, making it easier to understand how cities were influenced by different empires, kingdoms, or territories over time.

Travel Through Time
TimeMap’s timeline slider lets you travel through time and see how the historical context around a place changes.
As you move through different years, nearby regions and borders update, revealing how cities existed within different political and historical environments.
